Vintage Clothing: A Hip Way to Go Green

Vintage clothing is always in style. Just take a look at the red carpet. If vintage is good enough for the likes of Angelina Jolie, Penelope Cruz, Chloe Sevigny and more, it is good enough for you.

In fact, adding a few choice vintage items to your wardrobe is a great way of adding some individuality. The nature of fashions from by-gone eras is that they're pretty much one-of-a-kind.

Plus, great vintage clothing is easier to find that you think. With a variety of online resources dedicated to retro fashion, you can quickly and easily add a little spice and a little "green" to your closet.

Your Local Vintage Clothing Shop
Before you resort to shopping for vintage couture online, try finding a local clothing shop. Chances are your town, no matter how small, has a boutique.

You can also find fabulous one-of-a-kind vintage fashions at estate sales, yard sales and occasionally at thrift stores. So keep your eyes peeled.

Etsy
Etsy is an absolutely fantastic place to shop for vintage clothing. There are literally hundreds of sellers specializing in vintage finds. Here are a few of my personal favorites:

The Vintage Supply Co

The Vintage Supply Co.
The Vintage Supply Co has an excellent selection of clothing, accessories, furniture and home decor from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Thrush: Iconic Vintage

Thrush: Iconic Vintage
Thrush is one of my favorite Etsy shops for vintage couture. Not only do they have a wide array of styles, but they also cleverly name each garment after a celebrity icon.

Nod To Mod Vintage

Nod to Mod Vintage
Nod to Mod Vintage carries a large selection of fabulous garments from the 1970s and the 1980s.

Sophistikate

Sophistikate
Sophistikate has some choice vintage fashions and a great selection of vintage handbags. Check out the sister shop Domestikate for home decor and housewares.

Magpie & Birdie

Magpie & Birdie
Magpie & Birdie is another one of my favorite vintage shops on Etsy. They carry some beautiful retro treasures and some fabulous repurposed fashions.

Decades

Decades
This Etsy shop is super fantastic. It is called "decades" for a reason...there is a little something from every era.

The Vintage Closet

The Vintage Closet
I love this witty little vintage shop with an over-the-top selection of styles. The description of each item corresponds to a musical. How fun!

eBay
eBay is another great venue for vintage shopping. Jewelry, clothing, shoes and accessories are all readily available and there are some great deals to be had. Like most vintage shops, you'll never know exactly what you'll discover and searching yields hours of fun without ever having to leave your living room.

Online Vintage Fashion
Besides Etsy and eBay, there is a whole slough of online retailers specializing in vintage fashion. However, many e-tailers are very over priced and the quality of the sites is quite poor. Here are a few of the better online vintage shops:

Viva Vintage Clothing
This site makes me drool time and time again. The collection is absolutely fantastic and their prices are extremely reasonable.

Vintageous
Vintageous is little bit difficult to navigate and the quality of the site is on the mediocre side. However, the selection is out of this world and the prices seem extremely reasonable considering the quality of the items and their one-of-a-kind appeal. Their eveningwear collection is to die for. I just wish I had a formal event attend.

Fashion Dig
Fashion Dig is another fantastic option for vintage finds. They have an excellent selection from the 1920s through the 1990s.
